Microsoft UEFI CA rotation: What it means for Ubuntu users and vendors

This blog (Jon Seager and Julian Andres Klode) addresses the issue that Microsoft 2011 UEFI and KEK CA’s are set to expire in June 2026, being replaced by 2023 CAs. This comprehensive blog post gives us details of this change, and will be useful for existing Ubuntu users, Canonical-supplied VMs, and device vendors using Ubuntu.

Migrating remaining System V scripts to systemd services

Nick (enr0n) Rosbrook writes that some Ubuntu packages still ship System V scripts in them, something which won’t be available in Ubuntu 26.10 due to removal of systemd-sysv-generator in systemd v260. Nick highlights that upstream Debian has more time before Debian 14 (forky) releases than Ubuntu does with Ubuntu 26.10, and thus gives clues on what needs to be done this 26.10 cycle.

What Say You

Meet the Members: Thomas Ward

“I initially got involved in the Ubuntu community by needing support with Ubuntu 9.04 initially. That was my first introduction into the Ubuntu community. However, as I learned Linux and got more familiar with administration of the system and the nitty-gritty of Ubuntu and programming and packages, I began to get involved with Ask Ubuntu, helping users with issues and asking and answering questions in the Ask Ubuntu web space. That slowly expanded into development and technical side of things in Ubuntu (such as package maintenance, development, etc.)”
